Here it is folks! The long-awaited third album from Milwaukee's Soup Moat, Harvester of Likes. It's been four years since the release of their sophomore Inspirations and the band has morphed quite a bit in the interim, not only sonically but with an expanded lineup. Soup Moat founders Frank Knaebe and Scott Emmerich enlisted guitarist Jason Jolly not long after Inspirations saw its release; Nate Riddle joining soon after for their split cassette with Iron Pizza in 2016. The then-solidified band reentered the studio later that year, spending the next two recording and mixing in the "Meat Locker" with Harrison Colby (NO/NO, Sex Scenes).
The finished product, Harvester, is Soup Moat at their heaviest and most melodic. The twin guitar attack, first explored on the split tape, is now fully matured and realized. Their signature buzzed-out bass and drums forms the thick foundation for not only a heavy dose of aggression but also melody. Their latest showcases their unique ability to blend Melvins-esque riffage with Green Day-like popcraft (Dookie-era of course).
With an ever-revolving cast of members, Nate Riddle left the band soon after Harvester was completed. Kevin DeMars of Volunteer, who recently joined the band, will be joining them at their release show for the album this friday at Cactus Club. Also performing is Gloss label-mates Sex Scenes, NYC's Tight Fright and Milwaukee's own Doubletruck. 9pm. $7 admission of $10 admission w/ cassette.
